What I've Learned About Action Research

Through this week’s coursework I have learned that action research is an invaluable resource for a school leader.  It allows the leader to have a better understanding of what occurs at their school.  The leader is able to delve deep into what works and doesn’t work on their particular campus.   Teachers rarely feel as though their input is valuable.  Action research includes the faculty in finding a resolution to the problem.  Teachers are more inclined to use strategies to solve a problem when they have been involved in finding the resolution.  Action research would also give me the opportunity for reflection on my role as a leader in facilitating the change that would improve my campus.  Action research affords the leader the opportunity to become more approachable to their staff.  The administrator will no longer be seen as a dictator. The school will be run more as a democracy where voices are heard.   I will be able to use action research for various topics at my campus such as teacher retention, school climate, how to improve reading levels, how to improve science assessment scores, how to get parent involved more, student motivation and the best way to improve student performance on STARR.
