Astria,
ReplyDeleteLooks good! Teaching 8th grade math and having students on a first grade reading level is a huge hurdle. I have not heard of the program you are using but after looking at it I like it. Students these days love to be on computers and so the more technology we can get them using the better.
Best of luck on your project.
Astria,
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me look at your blog. I like your action research plan. The one question I keep asking myself is, is 2 months enough data to validate for our project? I am fearful that I will be done too soon and not have what is expected. I see that your project is very similar to the timeline I was looking at and being done before end of school. That is my only thought.
Jennifer,
DeleteHave you changed your timeline? I'm open to changing mine. I just want to try to get started now because life is so unpredictable. Dr. Abshire mentioned turning the project in by our seventh course, right? Do you happen to know when that would be?
What grades are your students who are involved in this reseach plan. I went to raz-kids website and was actually impress, but is it a program that is going to cost money. A program that you can use at home, record, and has questions for understanding seems great. But the other issue lies in how many tudents have access to the program at home and how will you monitor home use.
ReplyDeleteDonald,
DeleteGlad you looked st the site. They offer free trials. I am the ESL teacher for grades K-5. I planned to introduce it to Kindergarten with the next week. My 1st-5th graders have been using it periodically throughout the school year. Since I only have about 24 students, I would like to collect data from all of them.
The site allows me to see the date, time, and duration each child uses the program. I would like for the students to use it at school for a minimum of an hour a week. Since all of my students to not have internet access, I must ensure that they have the opportunity to use it at school.
I agree with both Jennifer and Donald...I would consider extending your timeline to get more data and maybe pick one grade level to focus on. You could start them now and track their progress into next school year. I will be interested to read your research :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I plan to start now and just see how it goes. I'm open to track them through the summer and into the beginning of the school year. The online program itself compiles all the data for me. I only have about 24 students in grades K-5 combined. The most I have in one grade level is 5 students. I'm not sure if just tracking those 5 students would give me enough data. As far as home use, some of my students don't have internet access. I am basing my study on use during school time only.
